PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 SUMMARY

1.03 SUBMITTALS
A. Treated Wood: Treating plant's instructions for use, including storage,
cutting, and finishing.
1. Pressure preservative treatment: Treating plant's certification
of compliance with specified standards and stating process employed
and preservative retention values.
2. Fire-retardant treatment: Treating plant's certification of compliance
with specified standards.
1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Marking of Fire-Retardant Treated Wood: Each piece of lumber or
Plywood shall be marked showing compliance with specified standards.
1.05 DELIVERY STORAGE AND HANDLING
A. Protect wood products against moisture and dimensional changes.
1.06 WARRANTY (Select one or more)
A. Provide the manufacturer's standard 20 year limited warranty for
D-BLAZE fire-retardant treated wood.
B. Provide the manufacturer's standard 50 year limited warranty for
ULTRAWOOD products.
C. Provide manufacturer's standard lifetime warranty for SUPATIMBER,
DESIGNWOOD SUPATIMBER and ACQ PRESERVATIVE pressure treated wood.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 WOOD FOUNDATION MATERIALS
A. General: Comply with requirements of referenced standards unless
indicated otherwise.
B. Dimension Lumber Framing: Same species and grade as specified for
stud framing, herein.
C. Plywood: APA Foundation Treating Grade.
2.02 MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS
A. Provide fasteners with a hot-dip zinc coating (ASTM A 153) for treated
lumber and where wood is in ground contact, subjected to high relative
humidity or exposed to weather.
2.03 WOOD TREATMENT BY PRESSURE PROCESS (Edit per project requirements)
A. Preservative Treatment for Above Ground Use:
1. Provide materials treated with the following:
a. Chemical Specialties Inc., Charlotte, NC. (ACQ PRESERVE) (ULTRAWOOD)
(SUPATIMBER) (DESIGNWOOD SUPATIMBER) (Select one or more).
2. Kiln dried after treatment to 19 percent maximum moisture content
for lumber and 18 percent for plywood.
3. Use 0.25 Lbs./Cu. Ft. retention.
4. Treat the following (Edit per project requirements):
a. Wood in contact with roofing, flashing, or waterproofing.
b. Wood in contact with masonry or concrete.
c. Wood within 18 inches of grade.
d. Decking, fence boards.
e. Other members indicated.
f . Wood exposed to the elements.
B. Preservative Treatment for ground contact and fresh water (or salt
water marine use):
1. Provide materials treated with the following:
a. Chemical Specialties Inc., Charlotte, NC (ULTRAWOOD) (SUPATIMBER)
(DESIGNWOOD SUPATIMBER) (Select one or more).
2. Kiln dried after treatment to 19 percent for plywood.
3. Use 0.40 Lbs./Cu. Ft. retention. (Use 0.60 Lbs./Cu. Ft. retention
for utility poles) (Use 0.80 to 1.00 Lbs./Cu. Ft. retention for Pilings--per
AWPA Standards) (Use 2.50 Lbs./Cu. Ft. retention for salt water marine).
4. Treat the following (Edit per project requirements):
a. Wood in contact with ground.
b. Wood in contact with fresh water.
c. Posts, landscaping timbers, retaining walls, piers, docks.
C. Preservative Treatment for softwood lumber, timber, and plywood
for wood foundation systems with waterborne preservatives for ground
contact use:
1. Provide materials treated with the following:
a. Chemical Specialties Inc., Charlotte, NC. (ACQ PRESERVE) (ULTRAWOOD)
(SUPATIMBER) (DESIGNWOOD SUPATIMBER) (Select one or more).
2. Use 0.60 Lbs./Cu. Ft. retention.
3. Pressure-Treat softwood lumber, timber, and plywood for wood foundation
systems with waterborne preservatives for ground contact to comply
with AWPA C22-92.
D. Fire-Retardant Treatment:
1. Provide materials treated with the following:
a. Chemical Specialties Inc., Charlotte, NC. (D-BLAZE)
2. Fire-retardant treated lumber: AWPA C20, C27, Type A
3. Treat the following items (Edit per project requirements):
a. Roof Trusses, Floor Trusses, Roof Decks and Sheathing
b. Subflooring, Beams and Purlins, Architectural millwork and trim.
4. Provide treatment approved by (BOCA) (ICBO) (SBCC) (MIL-L-191040E)
(NFPA 225) (UL 723) (New York City Building Code) (Select one or more).
2.04 IN-PLACE DRY WOOD TREATMENT:
A. Provide materials for field installation as manufactured by:
1. Chemical Specialties Inc., Charlotte, NC.
IMPEL RODS.
B. Dry Treatment shall be EPA registered, odorless and colorless.
C. Treat the following items (Edit per project requirements):
1. Wood materials exposed to the elements that are not pressure treated.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION - GENERAL
3.02 WOOD FOUNDATION SYSTEM
A. Install in accordance with NFPA publication "Permanent Wood
Foundation System: Design, Fabrication, Installation Manual: and Technical
Report No. 7 "The Permanent Wood Foundation System: Basic Requirements",
and APA Design/Construction Guide "Permanent Wood Foundation Guide
to Design and Construction."
3.03 WOOD FRAMING - GENERAL
A. Fire-treated wood shall not be ripped or milled. However, end cuts
and drill holes are allowed.
3.04 DRY TREATMENT
A. Install in-place wood treatment materials in accordance with manfacturer's
instructions.
1. Do not break, cut or hammer.
B. Use sizes as specified by the manufacturer for the size of wood
materials to be treated.
